United
States car (California) and. generally very rust free. Original
colour was Maroon but it had been sprayed in Metallic Blue. Not bad
interior and hood, although the rear window needed replacing. Good
tyres on slot mag alloy rims. Decided to respray the whole car in
the Abarth rally colours.
Took the car down to bare metal and repositioned the fuel filler and
covered in the marker lamps all round. Also removed the bumpers and
let the original indicators into the front panel after fabricating
some brackets.
Resprayed the whole interior and hood with Vinylcote which came out
very well. Lowered the whole car by removing one coil from each
spring and also fitted new shock absorbers to the front. Had some
ongoing trouble with the gearbox which had to be changed 3 times
before I was just about satisfied.
Full bare metal respray and Abarth spec engine on twin 40 IDF's.
Featured in 'Your Classic' magazine in May 1992. Won a couple of
other awards with it. Went to Germany with it and thrashed around
the Nordschlief for a couple of laps in the wet (dodgy!) Great car,
shame it got written off - but did get the full agreed value for it
- especially good as I was trying to sell it for £5500 at the time!
