BMW M3 E30 ROAD AND TRACK DAY CAR

Here are the details of my M3

It is a Munich Legends supplied car registered here in 1997.

The previous owner to the last undertook an enormous amount of work on the car all of which is apparent from all the ML invoices!!  In summary, a 35,000 mile Evo 11 engine was fitted which has done 55,000 miles in total and is still well away from the timing chain change. A new gearbox was fitted along with radiator, discs, wishbones and a whole list of’ other parts. The cost of this refurbishment exceeded £3000. The owner then ran it for 2 years and continued to have it maintained at ML.

Half Roll cage/Full Harness belts/Fire Ext/Leda adjustable Rear dampers/Koni adjustable Front dampers/Negative camber kit F/Susp. It has subsequently been maintained by ML and Altwoods Maidenhead. It was very carefully not modified away from road spec.

It was garaged and was only used for 2000 miles in 2000. He ran it in the CCC (Cars and car Conversions) Speed Championship doing Sprints and Hillclimbs. It won the unlimited Production Class in that Championship this year. It ran it at Silverstone, Castle Combe (see photo), Lydden, Goodwood, Curborough, Gurston Down amongst other tracks. It holds the production class record at most.

It was 1st 10 times, 2 twice and 3rd once. In wet conditions it is one of the fastest cars on any track, lapping Goodwood 10 seconds faster than the next competitor. It is quick! The class competition included Porsche 911, GT3, 944, TVR Chimera, V8S,. Griffith, Lotus Espirit Turbo, Sierra Cosworth and many others.

The only mod he would recommend would be to fit soft Yokohama track day tyres which he was not allowed to do in the CCC championship.

I have a small 'menu' of modifications I want to do to it to make it a great track day car. As one is allowed to do virtually anything, the tuning world is my oyster, so to speak!

Some pictures of the car since I acquired it.

The car has now been up to Bexley Motor Works in London where it had a Split Second MAF unit fitted and a fully re-mapped ECU, ITG filter, new throttle switch, Drilled rear discs and Greenstuff pads.

2003
All the seats have also been taken out, new Sparco Evo II items put in together with front and rear turret braces, new brakes all round, new shocks and a fresh paint job.

The original BHP was around 200 and it now produced 245.2BHP with 200Lb Ft of torque - quite an improvement - and it felt it!
