2004 Event News
The idea for the 2004 event is not only to raise
money for a worthy cause but to gather as many true sports and supercars
together for a superb show. Last year we had a fabulous turnout - helped
by similar weather, so for 2004 we want to go one better again.
We hope to have a maximum of
three of each type of
sports cars participating on the track with an exception for Lamborghini's,
Ferrari's, Maserati's, certain Porsche and other megacars.
These are the cars which will generate most money on the day so that is
the reason behind the idea. All other passenger rides ( i.e. 36 out
of the 48 cars) will cost £xx (TBA) per session.
We will also hope to offer passenger rides in
cars which can't meet the strict noise restriction at Castle Combe. These will
cost £25 and take place around local roads at normal speed limits (of course) and be
subject to the owners willingness and the passenger signing a
disclaimer.
Booking rides:
As there are 12 cars on track this year, there will be many more spaces
available for rides. We will also discourage participants from picking up
passengers in the pits and not from the queue. We
will guarantee all the cars coming to the 2004 event will be worth going
out in - there will also be a continuous 'auction' session of 10 supercars,
like last year, but again on a first come first served basis - bids will
start at £10. They
will have their own group so you can be sure those track sessions will be
something to remember.
We will ensure all the participants entering have an excellent knowledge of Castle
Combe so your passenger ride is sure to be a fun experience.
At lunchtime we'll again be having a procession
around the track at slow speed - places will ideally need to be pre-booked with a
maximum of 40 cars at £10 a car (with as many passengers as
it will hold). Unlike 2003, ALL participants will attend a quick
briefing prior to the procession as some people thought it was an excuse
for a track session which created a few problems last time.
Together with a number of trade
stands, we are confident this second event will attract
even more interesting cars and lots of like minded enthusiasts
& specialist manufacturers from all over the country.

The Sports & Supercar Day is primarily for road going cars
with a noise level at or below 100db. Entrants do not need a competition licence to take part. Crash helmets and safety belts must be worn in
respect of cars and timing of laps and racing is strictly forbidden.
Helmet hire is available for £15 per day with a returnable £50 deposit.
The day starts with signing on followed by a drivers briefing
which all entrants must (also the lunchtime procession ) attend. Drivers are split into separate
sessions making four in all and sessions kick off at 9am. Each session normally lasts for approximately fifteen minutes followed immediately by the next session, so each group is on
the track for fifteen minutes and off the track for 45 mins and then
back on for fifteen minutes, and so on throughout the day except for a
break of one hour for lunch.
All marshal posts are manned by experienced and qualified personnel and
full medical and rescue facilities are on standby throughout the day.
All track activities are controlled and directed from the control tower
by the tracks own personnel who are in constant radio contact with all
the marshals. Any bad behavior is immediately dealt with and will not be tolerated. Anyone who is foolish enough to step out
of line is promptly shown the front gate and does not get a refund.
A number of ARDS qualified instructors will be in
attendance and will be only too willing to help and advise people who
want to improve their driving skills free of charge. They will sit in
the car with you whilst you drive around and if you wish they will be
happy to drive the car for you and show you the way to do it, which is
an experience in itself. Passengers are allowed after each group has run
its first session at a charge of £15 for any number of, during the whole day.
Castle Combe has excellent catering facilities in the restaurant. Because of the early start,
signing on takes place from 7.30am to 8.30am, then noise testing and
briefing, ready for a 9am start.
The aim of the track day is to give responsible people the opportunity
to drive their own cars on the track and to let them enjoy
themselves whilst they are doing it. However, safety is always paramount
at these events and is always our first consideration. On-Track Experience is a member of the Association of Track Day
Organisers, so you may rest assured that this event will be organised to the
highest standards.
