1.  Battery Maintenance

Battery conditioners are a very worthwhile investment. The average cost for an Optimising charger is £49.95 Ex Vat. We advise a permanent plug connecting to the battery to allow easy access on the car, rather than using crocodile clips. These can easily move on the battery terminal, short the battery and could cause a fire. Most models have factory fitted battery isolator switches. Think twice before using these as they can cause more problems than they are worth. When the power is disconnected from the Engine Control Unit the ECU has to go through a re-learning process for correct operation. This applies to systems fitted on 360, 355, 348, 456, Mondial, & 512TR which have to go through a power reconnection learning process. The alarm system can also suffer from power being disconnected which can lead to the alarm siren back up battery going flat and as a result the alarm light will indicate a fault with the siren. The sirens can be expensive to replace. Unfortunately Trackers if fitted to your car can also suffer the same fate. Consider before hitting the power switch if you have your radio code?

2. Tool Kit

It’s one of those things you hope you will never use, but if you do you will be very grateful it was there. The tool kit comprises essential items – spare bulbs, fuses, drive belts, and hand tools– which could save your embarrassment should the unfortunate happen. It’s worth pulling your tool kit out at this time of year and making sure it’s contents are all present.

One of the most essential items in your tool kit is the towing eye. It makes loading your car on a recovery truck a much easier task. Unfortunately, it is often at this point that its absence is discovered.
Even if you have your towing eye, a common problem we come across is that the threads in the towing eye hole can be so corroded that the tow eye will not screw fully into place, this corrosion in extreme circumstances can cause the towing eye to pull out of the front of the car during the loading process.

The front location of the towing eye on most Ferrari’s leaves it vulnerable to the full effect of rain, grit and road grime. It’s worth having the threads cleaned out and copper grease applied. We find that fitting a rubber grommet over the hole will stop the water getting in and damaging the threads.
